Establish and evaluate contact with clients

Performance Criteria

  • The client is assisted to identify requirements
  • The client is enabled to determine the use of services available.
  • The client is helped to identify initial concerns and issues
  • The service to be provided is agreed with the client
  • The boundaries of the professional relationship are agreed with the client
  • The method and contract of working is agreed with the client
  • A safe and appropriate setting is provided

Performance Criteria:

  • The client is assisted to identify issues, concerns and anxieties
  • The client is assisted to assess and agree his/her current state of development.
  • Interaction is developed with the client
  • The client is enabled to decide upon a course of action
  • Interaction is brought to an end
  • The client is assisted to monitor his/her review of progress
  • The client is assisted to evaluated overall progress
  • A safe and appropriate setting is provided
  • Therapy sessions are regularly and effectively reviewed
  • Personal and professional boundaries are respected and maintained

  • Therapeutic boundaries are monitored
  • Practice is evaluated
  • Mutual overview of the therapeutic relationship is evaluated
  • Therapist's internal world and that of the client are differentiated
  • Theoretical orientation and its implication for the therapeutic process are identified
  • Continuing self support and supervision is ensured
  • Personal and professional boundaries are safeguarded

  • Contribution to other agencies to be evaluated
  • Personal and professional networks to be maintained and developed
  • Referrals to be made as appropriate
  • Information required to intervene on behalf of the client to be gathered
  • Strategy for intervention to be identified
  • Effect on the client to be monitored
  • Therapeutic process to be brought to an end
  • Referring agency to be advised if appropriate
