Element C2.1

Ensure appropriate environment and facilities for communal worship

Performance Criteria:

  • A worship area or worship areas are provided to meet the expressed needs of religious groups represented in the health care organisation
  • Equipment appropriate for worship requirements is provided and maintained or renewed
  • Organisational arrangements facilitate opportunity for worship
  • Use of worship areas is mutually agreed within the chaplaincy department
  • The worship environment accommodates all forms of disability of potential worshippers
  • Information about facilities and arrangements for acts of worship is appropriately disseminated
  • Worship space reflects the pastoral needs of the health care community
  • The worship environment is conducive to prayer and meditation

Christian Churches/ denominations, other faiths

sensory, movement, mental

Equipment:
audio-visual, furniture, sacramental/ symbolic, literature

Element C2.2

Provide opportunities for communal worship

Performance Criteria:

  • Opportunities for expression of communal feelings and shared experience are provided
  • Opportunities to mark and celebrate rites of passage are provided
  • Contributions of individuals to worship are recognised and encouraged
  • Patterns of worship are in keeping with the recognised traditions of the job-holder and her/his sponsoring body
  • Times of worship ensure optimum access in the light of individual needs, organisational timetables and religious calendars and festivals
  • Length, style and content of services meet individual and group needs and appropriate expectations
  • Communal worship is set in the context of pastoral care
  • Legal requirements are met and adequate records maintained
  • Opportunities to utilise broadcasting facilities are explored
  • Events beyond the immediate health care setting are given due liturgical recognition

birth/ initiation, wedding, death/funeral

Legal requirements:
marriages, funerals, ecclesiastical law, civil law

Festivals:
Christian, Non-Christian

Sponsoring Body:
Christian Church/ denomination, other faiths
