Ensure appropriate environment and facilities for personal worship

Performance Criteria

  • An adequate level of privacy is established in accordance with the individual's wishes and the facilities available
  • Individuals are made aware of organisational facilities meeting their religious needs
  • Adequate opportunity for the use of facilities is provided
  • Meeting of the worship needs of those outside the job-holder's tradition is facilitated at the earliest reasonable time
  • A pastoral relationship is established within which worship needs can be expressed
  • Equipment and literature appropriate for worship requirements are provided and maintained or renewed
  • Opportunities for worship are offered at times and in a manner which takes into account the pastoral needs of the individual as well as traditional religious practice

Range

Facilitation of worship needs:
Referral to appropriate person; Provision of resources - materials and space

Individuals:
patients, staff, relatives, carers

Worship equipment and literature:
sacred texts, other literature, sacramental requisites

  • Clinical conditions which may constrain physical activity including worship in individuals

  Element C1.2

Support the individual in prayer and worship

Performance Criteria:

  • Worship and prayer are appropriate to the mental, physical and spiritual condition of the individual
  • Appropriate explanation and reassurance about the nature of specific rituals or sacraments is given
  • The individual is encouraged and supported in the search for spiritual strength, healing and acceptance
  • The individual is assisted where possible to recognise, express and respond to the spiritual reality of her/his life and experience
  • Prayer is offered as part of, and in the strength of, the job-holder's own personal spiritual discipline
  • The resources of the job-holder's own spirituality and tradition are shared with sensitivity, relevance and appropriateness to the individual's situation

Range

Space:
shared, designated; chapel and worship areas, offices, counseling rooms, meeting rooms, mortuary chapel.

Equipment:
audio visual including musical, worship including sacramental, literature, office etc.

Team members:
Officially appointed and authorised chaplains (part-time and full-time, lay and ordained)

Individuals:
patients, staff, relatives, carers

Values, cultures, beliefs:
race, sexual orientation, gender, age, religion, politics, ideology, ethics, intellect.

  Element C1.3

Maintain and develop a personal spiritual discipline appropriate to one's own religious tradition

Performance Criteria:

  • Regular time and appropriate space is made available for maintenance and development of time &full-time, lay & personal spiritual discipline
  • Other team members are encouraged to respect, and where appropriate invited to share in, time allocated for personal spiritual discipline
  • Appropriate resources are made available for the personal use of the job holder, and are regularly reviewed
  • Appropriate reading of spiritual material and the study of sources of the job holder's faith and tradition are undertaken
  • Links are maintained with the on-going life of the job holder's sponsoring body
  • Participation in the life of a worshipping community is maintained and developed wherever possible and appropriate
  • Adequate support and review networks are identified and utilised, and where applicable cover is provided

Christian Church/ denomination, world faith

Team members:
